Objectives:
To provide the intern counselor with the opportunity to participate in actual counseling
sessions and discuss them with the instructor in separate debriefing sessions immediately
following the counseling. The intern counselor will also be responsible for planning
future sessions with the instructor's supervision. As the intern's ability to participate
in counseling sessions increases, the instructor may allow the intern to begin to
lead some sessions under the instructor's direct supervision. The goal is to provide
for the intern counselor the opportunity to advance from an observer role to the
role of leading the counseling on his/her own.
Prerequisites:
- This course is only available by invitation of the instructor.
- Must be actively involved in a body of believers.
- Agreement with the affirmations and denials of the International Association of Biblical
Counselors (IABC).
- Letter of recommendation from pastor or church board stating that the student is
growing in regards to the traits of Christian leadership outlined in 1 Timothy 3
and seems to be called to the ministry of counseling within the church.
