Christian Living Seminar
It is in our times of crisis, as we walk through our personal “valleys of the shadow of death” that our faith is most challenged. Even our most profound beliefs may be challenged by questions that are seemingly without answer. After all, if God is good and all powerful, then why does He allow us to experience tragedies, crises and difficult times? How should we respond to those times when our faith is tested to the core? To answer these and many other questions, on Saturday February 21, 2009 Grace Family Church of Rhode Island will host a special Christian living seminar entitled Responding to Crises and Difficult Times. The seminar will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Admission is free and a lunch snack will be provided.
Volunteer of the Month -
A faithful and dedicated member since 1989, Herbert Tilson Jr. is driven by a spirit of compassion and service. Always ready to step in when needed, "Herby" has a great heart for his God and for his church. Whether in singing, welcoming a stranger, helping someone in need, encouraging those who are down or just showing up in the middle of the week to make sure everything is ready for services, “Herby” is a constant presence and a gift from God.
Yard Sale Fellowship -
A church yard sale turns into a wonderful opportunity for fellowship between members and with our community. In addition to helping the church raise some very needed funds, this yard sale provided the opportunity to interact with people from the community, who did not just come to buy something, but to sit down with us and talk, enjoying a quiet moment of fellowship with us. Besides enjoying moments of laughter and fun, volunteers as well as customers were offered free refreshments both at the yard sale, as well as at the church, which was just across the street. A number of visitors indicated interest in attending our services, and said they will visit in the next few weeks. Click here for more photos.
Blood Drive Saves Lives -
A rainy evening did not spoil a blood drive our church sponsored together with the Rotary Club of Pawtuxet Valley, of which our pastor is this year’s president. We were able to collect 10 units of blood and have 4 deferred donations lined up. According to the Rhode Island Blood Center, which provided a blood mobile for this event, these donations may save the lives of 42 people. Special thanks to all those who helped place posters to advertise this event, and especially to those who despite the rain showed up to volunteer and to donate. Each donor was invited to come to the church for free food and beverages. Thanks also to DT Diner of Westerly, which donated gourmet sandwiches for this occasion.
2008 United in Faith -
On August 30, 2008 we joined several local churches in the 2008 United in Faith Celebration in Coventry, RI. Our volunteers could be found everywhere: setting up, assisting with parking, helping secure the premises, cooking and serving food and drinks, painting faces, supervising children’s activities and helping with our booth. Despite the rain, this event was truly blessed. It was wonderful to see Christians come together in unity and fellowship, sharing the love of Christ, and rejoicing together. Check our Family Album for more pictures.
